How's your suit?

“Google it”, “buy it on Amazon”, “Yelp it” are verbs that the online industry have created, among others. As a consumer, are you loyal to a brand?   Or do you like to try new things? How often do you buy? The answers for these questions are accessible online.
Think about it; your Smartphone is synchronized with your Facebook account, Calendar, Instagram, Yelp, Google therefore it is not crazy to think that every activity that you do is register online in a type of a “cloud” where almost everyone can access to it.
Now that you know that people could have access to a data with all your consumer behavior, the question now should be if you are aware of your own behavior or if you are just buying in an irrational way. So imagine all these years that you have been filled in something on the Internet either to buy, review, or frame a moment; all these data is registered and creates your data body. Studio Smack in the Netherlands has created an interesting representation of this data called “The Transparency Suit”.

“The ‘Transparency Suit’ visualizes the unseen flow of information around us (in this case as a result of our buying behaviour). It shows us an aesthetic and expressive solution that reveals a new field of visual code. The hidden information of the data body is made visible through a second skin, a suit that falls outside of the everyday experience.”

Now, let’s think how our personal suit would look like.

"Therefore our existence has become increasingly transparent on virtually every level. Decisions are aligned with our desires and needs, and technology is used to track us as accurately as possible"

  1. I think the analogy that your activity on the internet is like a "transparency suit" is very clever. I don't think that people realize that their habits are literally sorted out somewhere to be profiled for marketing, sales, etc. Anyone still want to cash a check with their phone?

  2. I personally try to keep my suit as clean as possible...as i hate being bombarded by those ever so distracting ads. Its amazing the amount resources that are committed to analyzing buyer trends and formulating different marketing schemes to get that dangling carrot as juicy as possible for everyone.
